About
Brittney Hutcherson — The Melanin Urban Gardener
Gardener. Educator. Wellness Advocate. Community Builder.
Hey there! I’m Brittney, the heart and hands behind The Melanin Urban Gardener. My journey with gardening started in a small backyard and has grown into something deeply rooted in purpose, passion, and community. From nurturing a single pumpkin plant (my proud garden moment!) to cultivating full raised bed systems, I’ve turned my love for growing food into a mission to empower others—especially those in urban spaces—to grow, thrive, and bloom where they are planted.
Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I specialize in teaching container gardening, food security strategies, and helping everyday people grow their own produce—no matter how much space they have. I’ve earned my Fundamentals of Gardening and Master Gardener certificate through UW-Madison.
Whether I’m running hands-on workshops, launching seasonal CSA programs, or leading community gardening events for seniors and youth, I bring an intentional, joy-filled approach to everything I grow. I believe gardening should feel like therapy, nourishment, and power all at once.
🌸 What I Offer:
Garden Consultations & Custom Installations
Urban Gardening Workshops
CSA Farm Box Program (Coming Spring 2025!)
Seasonal Events & Educational Series
Digital Guides & eBooks for Apartment Gardeners
My work lives at the intersection of sustainability, food justice, and Black joy. Through The Melanin Urban Gardener, I hope to inspire a generation of growers who look like me, live in cities like mine, and want more from the land beneath their feet.
Let’s grow something beautiful together. 🌿
